Head Start and Early Head Start

Wabash Area Development, Inc. (WADI) Head Start and Early Head Start programs provides a high quality early childhood education program and family services in Edwards, Gallatin, Hamilton, Saline, Wabash, Wayne, and White counties.

About Head Start and Early Head Start Programs:
Head Start and Early Head Start are federally funded programs provided at no cost to families with young children and are designed to promote school readiness. School readiness is defined as children possessing the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for success in school and in life beyond school. Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide assistance in core areas of early learning, health, and family well-being while engaging parents as partners every step of the way.

Early Head Start assists pregnant women and children from birth to age 3. Head Start serves children age 3 to 5.

Homebase
Assistance is provided through weekly home visits to each enrolled child and family. The home visitor provides child-focused visits that promote the parents' ability to support their child's development. These weekly visits last about an hour and a half each. The program offers opportunities for parents and children to come together as a group for learning, discussion, and social activity.

Center Classroom
Education and child development assistance
is delivered primarily in classroom
settings, which are located in Harrisburg
(Saline and Gallatin),
McLeansboro (White and
Hamilton), and Albion (Wabash
and Edwards).  Transportation is provided
for center participation.  Teachers meet
with families every few months to review
